Educate Her, Empower Her, Secure Her Future: Breaking Barriers for a Brighter Future Campaign

VEReF’s Educate Her, Empower Her, Secure Her Future campaign seeks to promote the education of girls as an effective strategy for the empowerment of girls and women, and the solution towards urgent gender-bias social problems such as child marriage, teen pregnancy, gender-based violence, poverty, and inequality. Volta Educational Renaissance Foundation (VEReF) can create a ripple effect that transforms the lives of girls and their communities by emphasizing the significance of education and providing gender-equal and equitable access and enrolment of girls to quality formal education.

Campaign Objectives

Increase awareness:
VEReF is raising awareness about the benefits of girls’ education and its positive impact on eradicating child marriage, teenage pregnancy, child labour, as well as gender-based violence, and other forms of female-centred abuse.

  • Promote enrolment: The Foundation encourages families and communities to enroll and support girls in schools, ensuring their access to quality education.
  • Empower girls: VEReF provides opportunities for personal development, skills training, and mentorship to empower girls and build their confidence and assertiveness.
  • Advocate for policy change: VEReF is a strong advocate for policy changes and reforms that support the education of girls, women empowerment, and protection against child marriage, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence.

Engage communities: The Foundation fosters partnerships with community leaders, parents, teachers, and local organisations to create a supportive environment for gender-inclusive education and address social norms and orthodox belief systems that hinder access, enrolment, retention and progression of girls in schools.

Campaign Strategies:
Awareness Campaign:

  • Develop compelling messages and visuals to raise awareness about the benefits of girls’ education and the consequences of child marriage, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence.
  • Conduct community awareness sessions, workshops, and seminars to engage parents, community leaders, and youth in dialogues about the importance of education and its impact on the well-being of girls.
  • Use various media channels, including social media, radio, television, and print, to disseminate information, success stories, and testimonials.

Girls’ School Enrolment and Retention Drives:

  • In collaboration with traditional and religious authorities, youth and women groups, schools, community-based organisations, and the local media, organise enrolment campaigns to ensure that girls have equal access to education by way of enrolment, retention, and transition.
  • Establish fee-exemption, sponsorship, and financial aid programmes to assist families who face financial barriers to their daughters’ education.
  • Conduct house-to-house campaigns and community meetings to resolve concerns, debunk myths, and provide information regarding the advantages of education.
  • Design and implement mentorship programmes and training in life skills to empower young girls (especially those under 20), boost their confidence and assertiveness, self-esteem, and develop their decision making and leadership abilities.
  • Facilitate workshops on reproductive health, gender equality, and rights in order to educate and empower females to make informed decisions.
  • Establish networking school and community girls’ clubs that becomes safe spaces where girls can share their experiences, receive counselling, and access resources to support their academic and personal development.

Empowerment Programmes:

  • Implement mentorship programmes and life skills training to empower girls, enhance their self-esteem, and develop leadership skills.
  • Organise workshops on reproductive health, gender equality, and rights to educate girls and equip them with knowledge to make informed decisions.
  • Establish safe spaces where girls can share experiences, receive counselling, and access resources to support their personal and academic growth.

Advocacy and Policy Change:

  • Collaborate with local and national stakeholders to advocate for policy changes that protect the rights of girls, prevent child marriage, address teenage pregnancy, and strengthen laws against gender-based violence.
  • Engage policymakers, community leaders, and influencers through meetings, seminars, and campaigns to highlight the importance of girls’ education and its impact on society.

Community Engagement:

  • Foster partnerships with traditional and religious authorities, community organisations, NGOs, and local leaders to create a supportive network that promotes girls’ education and challenges harmful social norms.
  • Engage parents and families in parent-teacher conferences, community forums, and seminars to address cultural and societal obstacles that impede the education of girls.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

Monitoring and evaluating the campaign’s progress and impact on a regular basis via surveys, interviews, and data collection. Evaluate the number of girls enrolled in school, changes in community attitudes, reductions in the rates of child marriage and adolescent pregnancy, as well as the overall empowerment and well-being of girls.
